Will its downturn continue? The Samsung deal with Verizon yesterday was huge and was a nail in the coffin of Nokia. He wishes they'd do a reverse split. The risk/reward is poor and is poised to sell further.

BUY

Nokia vs. Ericsson These companies have come into their own since the US government has pressured other government to not use Huawei for their 5G networks. Ericsson has done well in 5G. Nokia made an acquisition of Alcatel-Lucent that was difficult to pull off but has since gotten a lot better. Nokia will do a little better than Ericsson. Nokia has new management.

COMMENT

5G deployment is a key theme for him right now. NOK and CSCO are others in the space. He much prefers ERIC overall -- he thinks it could go to $12 per share.

COMMENT

He does not own AMT today. In 5G, he prefers CSCO and NOK.

COMMENT

A 5G producer? He has put his money on Ericsson, due to the their footprint and market share. Nokia has not been as consistent. This is a good time to enter he thinks and it is an area you can trade in.

DON'T BUY
They surprised the market by suspending their dividend and announcing their guidance to be way below where analysts expected. They are blaming slow spending on 5G. They seem to have a tough time meeting expectations. Stay away.
HOLD
5G? He owns this. There are three main manufacturers for 5G hardware -- and this is one of them. It trades around 5 Euros and he has a target at 5.60 Euros. It is like the gold rush, do you go after the gold or sell the picks and shovels. 5G will be revolutionary and he feels this is a good way to participate.
DON'T BUY
Avoid, because of all the confusion over 5G and whether Huawei will be allowed to participate. If Huawei is banned from selling 5G products, then NOK and others can fill the void. If Huweit does participate, then we can have too many products on the market and drive down prices. You don't want to compete against a company with their size.
COMMENT
Toppy, out of favour. The whole group is out of favour. If you like the story, it looks OK. We'll be stuck in this range for quite some time.
WAIT
Nokia vs. Ericsson. He's taken profit on both, and they're out of both and looking for them to come back. Nokia top and bottom line missed on both. For Ericsson, he'd look to buy back in around 890. Both benefited from the Huawei controversy. But now a lot of the European telecoms and IT companies are buying from Huawei.
HOLD
Looks fine. Watch if you don't own it. It's been holding $6 since 2014. Only news will make this rise.
WAIT
On his shopping list. Bit more expensive on a PEG ratio than Ericsson, but he'd recommend it.

People don’t hear much about Nokia for a reason. He has stayed away from companies that build legacy wireless infrastructure because of the transition to 5G. 5G wireless is more dependent on software, on the configuration of the local network nodes, and on the needs in the local area. 5G will displace landlines. Because development and deployment requires so much precision work, you have to get into metrology to do it. He prefers Keysight, the old HP, in this space. Keysight will provide the tools for the service providers, who will otherwise rely on generic hardware.

A very interesting company. Lost their phone business and had to rediscover themselves. Went into a deal with Lucent. They are moving along nicely, it is just a very slow process. Business can be very lumpy and volatile. There are a lot of better stocks to own.

DON'T BUY

The difficulty with this company is that it is kind of similar to the way Blackberry (BB-T) is now. When you stumble, it is really hard to recover when the competition is as fierce as it is. He would rather go with something else, such as Apple (AAPL-Q).
