India is one of those areas of the world where people talk of the long term story. They are relatively insulated from trade wars. He is caught on the long term India market. It is expensive. He owns SCIF-N.
Modi is now allowing Apple to do business there. India's had problems with bureaucracy, and if he makes it easier for foreign companies to come in and raise capital, it could be great. It depends on how the trade talks will go in terms of China. China has many geopolitical issues.
Likes emerging markets and this one covers India. Problem is there's social/political/economic upeaval in India as the country aspires to China's level. India is dominated by a few conglomerates, which also worries him. He'd rather buy an emerging markets ETF that will include India anyway, but without the risk.
When you get down to the country ETF’s, they are a little bit different certainly than the industry ETF’s. A lot of it comes down to familiarity, i.e. if you know India, spent time there or come from an Indian background. 10 stocks represent 90% of this index. If you want to go into something like this, just look at the top 10 stocks. If you know them and are comfortable with them that’s great. Otherwise he would be careful.
