HOLD
Just-released good earnings numbers. Good international story with lots of growth in Asia and Latin America. Really benefiting from the low US$. Good dividend. Expects Cdn$ will go higher so he is not buying a lot of foreign stocks right now. Low growth.
BUY
Coca-Cola. Growth is in their non-carbonated drinks. Prominently international and derive most of their revenue/earnings from overseas. A good play on the weak US$. 2.9% dividend.
PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick Feb 15/08. Down 24.4%.) Sold his position last fall.
BUY
Great company. One of the biggest international and most recognized brand names. Challenge has been to diversify their breakdown of assets from carbonated soft drinks into other beverages. Globally starting to get into water, teas and sports drinks, which are starting to show growth. Commodity prices will be declining, which should help them on the margins. 3.5% yield is safe.
COMMENT
Gets an enormous amount of its earnings outside of North America. As the US dollar got stronger, the money it brought back was worth less. A recession resistant product.
BUY
(Market Call Minute.) Probably the cheapest it has been in 10 or 15 years.
DON'T BUY
Has been a relatively safe place to be. Supposedly one of the great China stories and one of the most significant areas to play the global brand. Thinks it's going to be tied to the markets. In terms of upside, there are so many areas that will give you a better yield.
BUY
This is something that people use every day. Stock has come off like every other stock. Feels that going forward these kinds of companies will probably be market leaders. The only thing better would be financials.
WEAK BUY
Been very successful over the last couple of years because of international exposure, especially in China. Also benefited with the decline in the US$. Some question now as to whether the great growth overseas is going to continue. Dollar is becoming stronger so earnings will not be as strong.
COMMENT
Trading at about 17X forward earnings, that is not nearly as cheap as many other companies. You won't be hurt by this long-term. Have been hurt by higher costs. Sugar is a huge cost factor for their products.
DON'T BUY
Likes Pepsi more than Coke because of diversification.
BUY
Likes the food and beverage stocks. This company is a beneficiary of the global growth in the consumer. Not the strongest stock technically in the group. Would prefer General Mills (GIS-N) or H. J. Heinz (HNZ-N).
BUY
Return over the last 10 years has only been 4%. A lot of growth in revenue recently because of the weaker US$ creating some currency gains. Concerned that bottled water margins are probably lowering. Good price.
TOP PICK
80% of earnings come from outside of the US. Has exceptional cash flow. Trades at about 15X earnings with a dividend yield of 3%.
BUY
Likes this and is one that he would consider adding. If there is a more prolonged economic slowdown, lower priced beverages and fast foods will be more looked at for people trying to save.
