Better mobile, rewards program, enhanced store formats. Not a bad valuation. Yield is 1.91%. (Analysts’ price target is $94.69)

He thinks it has room to continue expanding. Their last quarterly report suggested they are moving to 36,000 stores worldwide from about 30,000 currently. Much of the growth will be in China -- on average they only consume 4 cups per person on average. On a valuation basis, it is always expensive. Right now it trades at 24 times earnings. Maybe tonight's earnings might make it cheaper?

Starbucks vs. McDonald's as a defensive play Good question. They both have strong moats and brands. He prefers Starbucks--their product offering is stronger. McDonald's is still a fast-food franchise, but a good operation. Starbucks has potential huge growth in China; McDonald's is already there.

An interesting turnaround story. It will never have the Herculean run they had in the past. An interesting candidate for a covered call option write strategy. At the end of the day he wants to see how the market goes -- if the market falls this will fall faster (high beta). Trade resolution will cause the stock to continue higher, but otherwise it may stutter. He would wait for a while.

Time to add? They are only in 26 states so far, so there is a long playing field for SHAK-N. It trades at a high multiple, so if they disappoint it can become very painful quickly. Be cautious. He prefers to own the established names like SBUX-Q or CMG-N.

It has had a number of different chapters. The company has been recovering with same store sales increasing and with a positive outlook for its Chinese operations. The problem is the PE ratio trading in the high 20s, means the stock is always priced to perfection with little room for stumbles. He would look elsewhere.

If you bought this a few years, you have done very well. But US growth has flatlined, which is a big challenge. Abroad, as in the UK and Canada, there is heavy coffee competition from other chains. China drinks tea, so penetration into that territory is limited. He missed buying this, but won't buy it now--it's too rich.
