WEAK BUY
Gold Gold is a natural hedge to bad news. It's possible for gold to make new highs. He owns FNV-T, but they are a royalty firm, not a producer. His clients own 3-5% actual gold in their portfolios which is a reasonable hedge. Higher than that, he does not advise.
HOLD
He generally does not trade gold stocks. But this is a good one as it pays a royalty. It has always been expensive, trading at 40 times EBITDA. It actually is a defensive stock as well as it would trade well if the market were to fall. Yield 1%
BUY
Done extremely well. It's breaking out again after a strong 2019. This is a fine holding and good way to play gold long-term. Gold is currently in seasonality.
COMMENT

Gold? He is likes gold as commodity prices are generally rising with a falling US dollar. The problem is that mining companies have a history of being self-destructive. He thinks the latest Kirkland Lake acquisition is a bad decision. He prefers Franco-Nevada that plays more as a royalty play.

TOP PICK
Analyst Jaime Carrasco, who specialized in gold, suggests Franco-Nevada for its rising dividend (currently 1.01%) and healthy cash flow, though suggest you could take some profits if you hold a large position. After all, FNV has shot up 41% this year. Hap Sneddon sees a $120 floor on this stock (it just closed at $130) and expects a nice lift if the trade deal is signed. Carrasco is more excited over Agnico Eagle. It just boosted its dividend by 40%, and the cash flow will rise as its new Nunavut mines start to produce. AEM is up 44% for the year, rallying since mid-October, though still 10% shy of its 52-week high of $86.39. Michael Sprung would consider this on a pullback.
PARTIAL SELL
This has held on steadily for the past six years. But going forward, take some profits, because it won't perform as well as the bigger blue-chip mining stocks. But maybe don't sell if you have a huge holding of this in your portfolio. He prefers Agnico-Eagle because it deals in more gold vs. other minerals.
COMMENT
Gold miners? You only want to own commodities when their price is doing well. Gold prices are doing well. The problem with miners is that share prices get separated from the commodity prices at times. There are always operational issues. He prefers holding Franco-Nevada as it is a royalty structure and not dependent on a single mine. He thinks gold prices are in a corrective phase, but poised to go higher.
TOP PICK

He buys it for cash flow. The dividend will increase. (Analysts’ price target is $134.60)

PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick May 06/19, Up 28%) Gold is just getting going. This is more than a seasonal move. He sees a nice floor at $120 for this stock. Resolution to the China trade issue, the US dollar would weaken and make this a great buy.
COMMENT
Exiting period of seasonality for gold. Tremendous runup, overbought, now it's pulling back. Broke below trend line. Now a trend of lower lows, lower highs. Exited his gold positions. It's not an end to the long-term ride. Another seasonality starts in the new year.
COMMENT

Gold? He is not a gold specialist, but it is an area driven by lower interest rates. He thinks we are entering a new phase for gold, where gold is standing out as a safe holding again. He likes ABX-T and FNV-T in this space.

WEAK BUY
One of the few gold companies to consider, to create value. Others have destroyed shareholder value. FNV is based on a royalty structure and has done well over time. Problem is the current valuation is now high. (He owns no gold now.) In gold, look at the streamers or hard gold itself.
BUY ON WEAKNESS
Gold. He does not work in fundamentals. He thinks there is a huge upside still and would buy on dips.
COMMENT

She does not own gold stocks at this point. Having a position in the portfolio is a good idea. They are watching FNV-T, because they take their royalty right off the top, reducing some risk.

PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick Sep 13/18, Up 66%) It wasn't easy to pick 12 months ago when gold was nowhere. Yes, it was uncomfortable to buy, but it was a quality way to play gold, and gold has since broken out. FNV has outperformed bullion.
