A risky stock and a risky area. You need intestinal fortitude to own this kind of stock. At the moment, things look pretty positive. Reports on their new BB10 have all been quite positive. Don’t put all of your eggs into this basket. If you are a risk taker and it is not going to dominate your portfolio, you could take a shot at it. Would wait until the new phone is out before deciding.

DON'T BUY

Market is very, very cynical. Consumers are constantly changing their minds every 3 years and always want the latest and greatest. A tough, tough market so this is one he does not participate in. He’d rather play the group that actually provides products and services into those markets. Thinks this is a gambling stock.

WAIT

January 31 before the new phone BB10 comes out. We need to know that there is a phone and it will actually be issued. Secondly we don’t know how the phone is going to go over but he suspects that there will be huge latent demand from Blackberry enterprise users. Stock has moved very close to his target of $18 but now he wants to sit back and wait and see.

DON'T BUY

Would not be in it right now. Looking for disappointment in the stock price with upcoming news. Questions if people will switch back now that they switched away.

PARTIAL BUY

There is value through the company in its patents and much of it depends on how the next Blackberry product turns out in the next month or so. Doesn’t own this because growth is unknown and he doesn’t know where it is going to go. For a small part of your portfolio, if you want to speculate on how well BB10 is going to be received, that could make sense.

BUY ON WEAKNESS

Thinks this play is pretty much over. Sold his holdings at around $13. Wait for another pull back. If it got to $10, he would have a serious look.

PAST TOP PICK

(A Top Pick Jan 10/12. Down 28.03%.) Averaged down at $8.50 and $11.50. Feels the short-term story is intact and he likes it. He just doesn’t know what is going to happen with it beyond the Blackberry 10.

DON'T BUY

(Market Call Minute.) Just too big of a crapshoot. Terrific company that got clobbered by distracted management and its big competitor, Apple (AAPL-Q).

HOLD

Completed almost a perfect reverse head and shoulders pattern about 2 months ago. This is the most bullish pattern a tech analyst looks at. It could now come back to its neck line and that would provide another buying opportunity. It still looks promising from a technical point of view.

COMMENT

Very difficult story. It all depends on BlackBerry 10. The general view is that it is a great product. If this can consolidate this company’s position in the enterprise space they have a very good opportunity of being a player in the smart phone business. Stock will be very volatile over the next 1.5 months.

COMMENT

Questions how analyzable the situation is now. Feels that this is a speculation more than an investment at this time. If you are putting money in that you can afford to lose, go ahead, but on the other hand if it is a huge success, it could be a home run.

COMMENT

Doesn’t feel the quarter’s earnings matter that much, it’s all about BlackBerry 10 at the moment and how the launch goes and whether they’ll be able to regain any of the market share that they lost over the last few years. Modestly increased cash by mostly managing the balance sheet better. What matters is what people are going to think about the new device, when they get it out there and if they can grow their subscriber base.

DON'T BUY

A one trick pony now. It has basically bet the whole company on Blackberry 10. This is a bet, not an investment.

BUY

Moving quickly. Lots of speculative flow. You have some momentum but there is overhead resistance, not massive, just below $15. Thinks we could see a test of the 52 week high in Q1. Below $11.50 it will re-test previous lows.

WATCH

This thing has really changed. They have to launch in February. The blackberry share has been shrinking which he has been watching. There is still a lot of risks in the name, but it could reach it’s 52 week high.
