Market is very, very cynical. Consumers are constantly changing their minds every 3 years and always want the latest and greatest. A tough, tough market so this is one he does not participate in. He’d rather play the group that actually provides products and services into those markets. Thinks this is a gambling stock.
January 31 before the new phone BB10 comes out. We need to know that there is a phone and it will actually be issued. Secondly we don’t know how the phone is going to go over but he suspects that there will be huge latent demand from Blackberry enterprise users. Stock has moved very close to his target of $18 but now he wants to sit back and wait and see.
There is value through the company in its patents and much of it depends on how the next Blackberry product turns out in the next month or so. Doesn’t own this because growth is unknown and he doesn’t know where it is going to go. For a small part of your portfolio, if you want to speculate on how well BB10 is going to be received, that could make sense.
Very difficult story. It all depends on BlackBerry 10. The general view is that it is a great product. If this can consolidate this company’s position in the enterprise space they have a very good opportunity of being a player in the smart phone business. Stock will be very volatile over the next 1.5 months.
Doesn’t feel the quarter’s earnings matter that much, it’s all about BlackBerry 10 at the moment and how the launch goes and whether they’ll be able to regain any of the market share that they lost over the last few years. Modestly increased cash by mostly managing the balance sheet better. What matters is what people are going to think about the new device, when they get it out there and if they can grow their subscriber base.
A risky stock and a risky area. You need intestinal fortitude to own this kind of stock. At the moment, things look pretty positive. Reports on their new BB10 have all been quite positive. Don’t put all of your eggs into this basket. If you are a risk taker and it is not going to dominate your portfolio, you could take a shot at it. Would wait until the new phone is out before deciding.
